Laos

In helping realize the vision of food systems and landscapes that sustain the planet, the Alliance in Laos is forwarding a multi-pronged research approach geared towards developing sustainable solutions against looming pest and disease problems sweeping across mainland Southeast Asia. As climate conditions worsen at an unprecedented scale, Alliance researchers continue to innovate and maximize digital technology and the use of agricultural biodiversity to help safeguard smallholder farmers against climate-induced losses. 

The Alliance also recognizes the critical need to strengthen ties with the government and other partners to raise productivity and ensure sustainability of existing agricultural value chains at the height of rapidly expanding high market demands.

Transforming agriculture at the forefront of a climate crisis is central to the Alliance work in Laos. Throughout the years, Laos remains dependent on climate-sensitive yet highly valuable key commodities, which contribute significantly to the rural economy and livelihoods of smallholder farmers.

The Alliance’s extensive involvement in complex areas that cut across existing and emerging issues in climate action, biodiversity for food and agriculture, and digital agriculture, among others, is shaping real and impactful results for both producers and consumers in the agricultural value chain.
