Mathieu Ouedraogo

Dr. Mathieu OUEDRAOGO is a resourceful agricultural economist with over 20 years’ experience in agricultural research for development at national and international levels. He has a deep technical knowledge in agricultural and environmental economics, development, and environmental studies. His area of expertise includes adoption and impact assessment of agricultural innovations, agricultural value chain analysis, climate-smart agriculture (CSA), economic valuation of environment and natural resources, participatory action research approaches, and gender studies.

Currently, he is a Senior Scientist with the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), working on CSA and Climate information services (CIS) to provide leadership on fostering the integration and sustainable scaling of bundled CSA and CIS solutions and to lead the expansion of the CIS agenda across West and Central Africa. He is also supporting the implementation of CSA projects in West and Central Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Chad, and Gambia).

From 2013 to 2021, Dr. Mathieu Ouedraogo led the participatory action research for the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) in West Africa. He led the development of climate-smart villages to promote CSA in West Africa and the development of climate-smart value chains for increased resilient livelihood in West Africa. He backstopped the implementation of several CSA projects in Niger, Senegal, and Nigeria.

He has a strong record of publications (more than 70 papers) on natural resource management, climate change, agriculture, and food security.
