Mkiza Mordecai

I am an agronomy enthusiast who is passionate about improving the state of agriculture through innovation and technology. With a clear understanding of research and training in agroecosystems and environmental science, I am motivated to learn, grow, and excel in agricultural research. I am committed to using my knowledge and skills to improve the adaptability, sustainability, and suitability of agriculture both locally and regionally. I am dedicated to improving the status of smallholder farmers who face key challenges in farming. I believe that poor soil and water management, unstable markets, and climate change are the most pressing challenges facing farmers today. I am determined to find innovative solutions to these problems and help farmers achieve their full potential.

I first joined The Alliance in October 2019 as an intern in the soil and water management team and later returned as a consultant in April 2022, where I continued to pursue my passion for agriculture. I was later appointed as a Research Associate in November the same year, in the soil and water management department, under the multifunctional landscapes team.

In my current role, I am responsible for developing literature reviews, performing data analysis, conducting soil and plant sampling and analysis procedures, setting up field experiments, and promoting partnerships. I am also passionate about brainstorming ideas and innovations that can solve the problems around farming with the team. My contributions have been invaluable to the team and highly regarded by colleagues.

I have basic knowledge in R, Python, and DSSAT crop model. I understand the importance of data analysis and modelling in the fast-changing technological environment we are in. I am constantly improving my skills in these areas to help the team process the data they collect, make predictions, and develop evidence-based recommendations.

My excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and passion for farming make me an invaluable member of my team. I am dedicated to improving the lives of smallholder farmers and is determined to find innovative solutions to the challenges facing agriculture today.
