Serigne Omar Sene

Serigne Omar Sene is a Scientist at the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and Environmental and Social E&S Specialist for the Accelerating Impact of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) Project. His main role is to ensure the project compliance with relevant national environmental laws and the World Bank Environmental and Social Standards. In so doing, he assist's clusters in preparing and implementing E&S instruments approved by the World Bank for the mitigation of adverse E&S risks and impacts.
Prior to joining the Alliance, Serigne worked as project manager in an environmental and social assessment firm approved by the ministry in charge of the environment in Senegal and had already conducted studies throughout Senegal and in the sub-region (especially Mali and Guinea). He has been working in the environmental sector since 2003. My main qualifications are Quality Management, Occupational Health and Safety, environmental assessment (Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, Environmental and Health and Safety Audit, Environmental and Social Management Plan, Resettlement Action Plan and Livelihood Restitution Plan, etc.).
Serigne is a PhD student at the University Cheikh Anta DIOP (UCAD) of Dakar. His research interest is in ecology and ecosystem management. He studies the effects of cultural practices, landscape, and climatic factors on the management of the tomato moth, Helicoverpa armigera (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). His studies aim to find suitable methods for agroecological control of pests encountered in agricultural plots.
